Mitsubishi Incar Bisnis Konversi Batubara Jadi Gas di Sumatera
Mitsubishi Corp siap berinvestasi di Indonesia untuk proyek konversi batubara kualitas rendah menjadi gas. Perusahaan asal Jepang tersebut berencana memulai proyeknya di Sumatera pada 2012.

Demikian disampaikan oleh Wakil Menteri Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) Widjajono Partowidagdo ketika ditemui di Kantor Menteri Perekonomian, Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta, Selasa (3/1/2012).

"Mistubishi akan bertemu dengan saya segera untuk membicarakan pengolahan batubara menjadi gas. Mereka rencananya membangun pabrik di Sumatera nantinya," kata Widjajono.

Menurutnya, gas yang nantinya dihasilkan dari pengolahan tersebut harga jualnya akan murah. Nantinya, bisa dimanfaatkan untuk sumber daya listrik.

"Mereka jual US$ 10 sen per kwh. Itu kan bisa murah sekali," ungkapnya.

Dikatakan Widjajono, gas tersebut nantinya akan dikirim melalui pipa yang sudah ada ke Pulau Jawa.

Kilang pengolahan Pengganti Gas Alam (Substitute Natural Gas/SNG) direncanakan selesai, dan mulai beroperasi di 2017.

"Indonesia memiliki cadangan batubara yang besar dengan kelembaban tinggi, dan kandungan energinya sedikit, sehingga sulit untuk dimanfaatkan. Mitsubishi bisa memanfaatkannya," jelasnya.

Hal ini dilakukan juga, sambung Widjajono karena batubara jenis ini bisa menggantikan produksi minyak bumi Indonesia semakin turun karena digunakan untuk suplai listrik.

"Saat ini produksi batubara kita melimpah namun 80% untuk ekspor. Kalau dipakai konversi kan bagus itu. Batubara bisa diubah jadi gas," jelas Widjajono.

Coal producer PT Adaro Indonesia is planning to soon boost its production capacity to 80 million tons annually, almost double the 42.19 millions tons it produced throughout 2010.

The planned boost in production is intended to support the Indonesian government's policy placing the private company as among “national vital objects” in regard to energy production, Adaro general manager Priyadi said Friday.

“Our production is vital. [If we] halt our supply for just one week, Java and Bali will suffer from blackouts,” Priyadi said in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

“This year we're targeting to produce up to 48 millions tons,” he said.

Priyadi said more than 25 percent of the coal Adaro produced was aimed at the domestic market, most of which would be to support power plants in Java and Bali.

The three coal mines Adaro operates in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan contain combined total coal reserves of 5.7 billions tons, he said.

Paget Minerals Options Ben Moly Property

Paget Minerals Corp. announced that it has entered into an Agreement with TTM Resources Inc. (“TTM”) whereby TTM can acquire a 100% mineral interest in the Ben molybdenum property in the Nechako Basin, central B.C. The property consists of four mineral claims that lie south of and adjacent to TTM’s Chu molybdenum project currently under active exploration by TTM.

Under the terms of the Agreement, Paget will receive 200,000 common shares in the capital of TTM and $32,880 as reimbursement for the total expenses incurred by Paget on the property upon receipt of regulatory approval. TTM is also required to expend up to $500,000, or such lesser amount as both TTM and Paget agree, in work expenditures on the property within a period of 12 months following the initial payment.

If, in the reasonable opinion of TTM, sufficient mineralization has been identified on the Property and commercial production is likely to occur within a period of five years from the date of the Purchase Agreement, Paget will have the right to back-in to the Ben project for a 49% undivided participating interest by paying TTM 49% of its total costs in connection with the property (“Back-In Right”). In the event that Paget exercises the Back-In Right, a joint venture will be deemed to have been formed and the parties will enter into a Joint Venture Agreement.

Golden Goose Resources Inc. and Kodiak Exploration Limited announce that they have signed a binding definitive merger agreement. Golden Goose and Kodiak have agreed to proceed with a business combination by way of a corporate Arrangement pursuant to the provisions of the Companies Act of Quebec. The Arrangement will effectively combine the assets of both companies on a consolidated basis, with Golden Goose Resources becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kodiak.

Under the terms of the definitive merger agreement between Golden Goose and Kodiak, shareholders of Golden Goose Resources will exchange their issued common shares for new common shares and warrants of Kodiak, on the basis of 1.2 new shares of Kodiak and one quarter (0.25) of a Kodiak Share Purchase Warrant for each outstanding share of Golden Goose Resources. The Kodiak Warrant is exercisable for three years at a price of $0.45 with an acceleration clause should Kodiak shares listed on the TSX Venture Exchange trade above $0.60 for twenty consecutive trading days. Upon closing the transaction, David Watkins, currently a member of the Golden Goose Board of Directors, will join the Kodiak Board of Directors.

Using a twenty day VWOP (Volume Weighted Opening Price through August 28, 2010) of $0.20 for Golden Goose shares and $0.21 for Kodiak shares, the 1.2 exchange ratio plus the fair value of the quarter Share Purchase Warrant ($0.03) produces a premium of 40% for Golden Goose shareholders.

All convertible securities of Golden Goose will be exchanged for convertible securities of Kodiak on the same basis, adjusted accordingly to reflect the share exchange ratio. The completion of the Arrangement is subject to standard conditions precedent applicable to statutory plans of arrangement, including standard commercial conditions precedent, approval of the common shareholders of Golden Goose, deregistration of Golden Goose shares in the US, and court approval. The transaction is scheduled to close in the fourth quarter of 2010.

A special general meeting of Golden Goose shareholders will be held early in the fourth quarter of 2010 to approve the Arrangement. Golden Goose shareholders will receive an Information Circular setting out further details of the proposed transaction; the Information Circular will also be filed and made available on SEDAR (www.sedar.com).

National Bank Financial acted as financial advisor to Golden Goose on this transaction; KPMG Corporate Finance Inc. and Casimir Capital L.P. acted as financial advisors to Kodiak in connection with this transaction.

Mineral Invest concludes agreement on gold deposits

Mineral Invest International MII AB (publ) has today through its local subsidiary, Mineral Invest Congo SPRL, after a long period of negotiations with the state owned mining company Office de mines de’Or de Kilo-Moto, OKIMO, acquired an exclusive license agreement regarding gold prospecting in the Kilo-Moto area. This area is located in the north-eastern part of Democratic Republic of Congo of (DRC).

The mining permits for the license area will be allocated to a partnership which will be formed between Mineral Invest and Okimo. “This is a world-class area which in our industry corresponds to several million ounces of gold” says Michael Nilsson, CEO Mineral Invest International MII AB.

Today, Okimo owns an area of 83,000 km2 in the Oriental province in north-eastern DRC whereof 20,000 km2 has been subject to geological survey. The appearance of gold was detected in the beginning of the 20th century and the area is regarded as one of the most promising gold mining areas in the world. The license area comprises 1,440 km2. The entire area has historically been subject to geological survey, and the interest from larger mining companies to acquire licenses has lately been in focus. Amongst these companies can be mentioned RandGold and AngloGold Ashanti. Also, smaller companies such as Mwana Africa operates in the province, where investments are made within the various area where prospecting activities are conducted.

Okimo is one of the largest state owned gold companies being responsible for managing and maintaining the mineral- and energy sector in the country. The company was founded more than 100 years ago having its head office in the capital Kinshasa. Okimo holds the fifth largest gold reserves of 23 million ounces, which corresponds to about 13 percent of the total world reserves.

Pavel Durnev, Chief geologist at Mineral Invest, says” The indicated gold content in the area has been ranging within 10 to 119 g/t and I think it is highly possible that the license area contains several million ounces of gold. A delegation, headed by Willy Bafoa Lifeta, CEO of Okimo, visited Stockholm in July this year, with the purpose to discuss ways and terms for future cooperation.

Coke prices in India to go up by INR 5000 a tonne

It is reported that prices of metallurgical coke a vital raw material in steel making, may rise up to INR 5,000 a tonne by December on increasing demand.

Mr Arun Jagatramka vice chairman and managing director of Gujarat NRE Coke said that "With the rising demand, metallurgical coke prices are expected to go up to INR 25,000 to INR 26,000 a tonne by December from the current level of INR 21,000 a tonne.”

Gujarat NRE Coke the country's largest independent producer of metallurgical coke which is processed from coking coal, is in the process to expand its capacity to produce the metallurgical coke to feed the rising demand.

At present, the company is installing 1 million tonne plant in Andhra Pradesh for an estimated sum of INR 800 crore.

Mr Jagatramka said that "We are slated to start the construction of the Andhra unit in next six months.”

Great Panther Signs New Sales Contracts for Topia Concentrates

GREAT PANTHER RESOURCES LIMITED announce it has signed contracts with Louis Dreyfus Commodities Metals Suisse SA (LDC), part of one of the world’s largest commodities trading companies, for the sale of lead and zinc concentrates from the Company’s wholly owned Topia silver-lead-zinc mine in Durango State, Mexico. The contracts are effective through to December 31, 2010 and will enable Great Panther to achieve further reductions in unit costs from its Topia operations. Including other cost-cutting measures, Topia’s unit costs for 2009 are now forecast to be in the range of US$8.50 to US$9.00 per ounce of silver, net of by-products, down from the initial estimate of US$11.00 to US$11.50 per ounce (see news release dated Feb. 18, 2009). Topia’s costs in the first quarter of 2009 had already started to come down, to US$9.18, due to higher base metal prices and to spot sales of lead concentrate to LDC while the silver refinery in Torreon was on strike.

Under the new agreements with LDC, concentrates are trucked by road from the Topia mine to the Pacific coast port of Manzanillo. The port facility in Manzanillo receives and stores the concentrate before exporting it by ship to Asian smelters, mainly in China. Over the last year the Asian demand for concentrates has increased dramatically such that highly competitive terms are now being offered. These new, lower terms outweigh the added transportation costs when compared to selling concentrates to the Mexican lead and zinc smelters. LDC blends concentrates from a number of sources to meet the various requirements of the Asian smelters.

Topia reported production of high quality concentrates in the first quarter of 2009: 372 tonnes of lead concentrate, with grades of 8,700g/t silver and 59% lead; and 434 tonnes of zinc concentrate, with grades of 470g/t silver and 55% zinc. The concentrates contained a total of 169,162 silver equivalent ounces (Ag eq oz), including 110,814 oz silver, 110 oz gold, 222 tonnes of lead and 276 tonnes of zinc. Production is continuing at these levels for the second quarter.

Great Panther also operates the larger and lower cost (US$5.21 per ounce in Q1 2009) Guanajuato silver-gold mine, from which concentrates are sold to the IMMSA copper smelter in San Luis Potosi. The estimated combined cost per ounce for the two mines in 2009 has been revised downwards to the US$6.00 to US$6.50 per ounce range, from the initial estimate of US$7.00 to US$7.50.

The Company reported total metal production from both operations of 480,267 Ag eq oz in the first quarter, including silver production of 334,635 oz. The mines are expected to increase production further through the balance of the year and the Company forecasts 2009 metal production of 1.45 million oz of silver, 6,000 oz of gold, 750 tonnes of lead and 840 tonnes of zinc, (2.07 million Ag eq oz).

Robert F. Brown, P.Eng. Vice President of Exploration for the Company is the Qualified Person for both the Guanajuato Mine and the Topia Mine, under the meaning of NI 43-101. Aspects of both mines relating to mining and metallurgy are overseen by Charles Brown, Chief Operating Officer for Great Panther and its Mexican subsidiary, Minera Mexicana El Rosario, S.A. de C.V.

NiMin Energy Signs Term Sheet for Long-Term Financing
NiMin Energy Corp. announced the execution of a preliminary term sheet for a senior secured loan (the “Loan”) in the amount of US$36 million from a large institutional private lender (the “Lender”). At the request of the Company and subject to approval by the Lender, the Loan may be increased up to US$75 million to provide additional development capital.

The new long-term Loan will be used to repay the Company’s existing short-term debt of US$22.4 million and to fund the 2010 capital program – which is focused on developing the recently acquired Wyoming assets. The Loan is for five years, carries a fixed interest rate of 12.5% per year and is expected to close by May 31, 2010, subject to customary due diligence, negotiation of final terms, conditions and other fees and costs, and approvals by Lender and the Company’s Board of Directors.

Clancy Cottman, NiMin’s Chairman and CEO, said, “This long-term financing is an important step for the Company as it both removes the short-term debt obligation from our balance sheet and provides us with the capital to execute our 2010 drilling program – including continued drilling in Wyoming and an additional well in California. It also provides NiMin with significant financing flexibility going forward to grow our business.”

The Company recently announced the completion of its first well at the Ferguson Ranch Field in Wyoming and plans to drill an additional eleven low-risk development wells in the same field during 2010. NiMin is also planning an additional well on its California property as a result of the positive production response from the Pleito Creek “Combined Miscible Drive” operations.

Canadian Zinc Corporation reports that The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Metis and Non Status Indians, on July 16, 2009 visited the Company’s Prairie Creek Mine site in the Northwest Territories.

Minister Strahl was in the Northwest Territories, accompanied by The Honourable Jim Prentice, Canada’s Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada to mark the expansion of Nahanni National Park Reserve, making it the third largest National Park in Canada. The enlarged Park covers most of the South Nahanni River watershed and completely encircles the Prairie Creek Mine. However, the Prairie Creek Mine itself and a large surrounding area of approximately 300 square kilometers are specifically excluded from the Park and are not part of the expanded Park.

Touring the Prairie Creek Mine site facilities, Minister Strahl said the Government’s decision on the expansion of Nahanni National Park reflects a balanced approach to development and to conservation which allows for mineral resource and energy development in the Northwest Territories and at the same time protects the environment.

The exclusion of the Prairie Creek Mine from the expanded Park allows for the creation of a generation’s worth of high value jobs and potential long term economic opportunities for the people of the Dehcho First Nations, through the agreements that have been entered into with Canadian Zinc.

The balanced approach allows for future development of energy and mineral resources in the region outside the Park Reserve and provides economic opportunities, something that is important for all the people of NWT and for all Canadians. Securing agreement on the expansion of the Park required a careful balancing of all the interests, including those of the Northwest Territorial Government that want to see economic development in the North. The development of the Prairie Creek Mine has been an important part of the discussions, said Minister Strahl.

Balanced Approach to Reach Agreement on Park Boundaries:

Indian and Northern Affairs Canada worked with Parks Canada, Natural Resources Canada and Territorial Governments to undertake a mineral and energy resource assessment (MERA) of the expansion area. The MERA ensured that the economic and strategic significance of mineral and energy resource potential was adequately considered in the national park expansion process.

The MERA results, along with the conservation research studies, were used to create a boundary that balances key conservation targets and potential future economic benefit. Nine percent of the Greater Nahanni ecosystem has been excluded from the expanded national park reserve. This represents all the hydrocarbon potential and about half of the most important mineral potential identified by the MERA Study, as well as 100% of the existing mineral claims and mining leases such as the Prairie Creek Mine, currently under development, and the operating Cantung Mine.

The Government of Canada recognizes pre-existing third party mining rights including access to those rights. Development of these rights, including the right of access, will still be subject to existing regulatory processes.

In welcoming Minister Strahl to the Prairie Creek Mine site, Canadian Zinc Corporation’s Chairman, John Kearney said: “Canadian Zinc appreciates the support we have received for the development of the Prairie Creek Mine from the Government of Canada, and from the Government of the Northwest Territories and the communities of the Dehcho.”

The Prairie Creek mineral deposit contains very substantial quantities of zinc, lead and silver. When in production the Mine will add significantly to Canada’s production of lead and zinc concentrates and will create employment for about 225 people and business opportunities for the local communities in the Dehcho region of the Northwest Territories which currently have a very high unemployment rate and a growing population.

“Canadian Zinc worked very closely, and constructively, with officials at Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and at Parks Canada to achieve this balanced solution which facilitates both the expansion of Nahanni National Park and the development of the Prairie Creek Mine which will bring much needed jobs, benefits, business opportunities and economic stimulus to the Dehcho Region of the Northwest Territories and presents a unique opportunity to strengthen and enhance the social and economic wellbeing of the surrounding Dehcho communities;” Mr. Kearney added.

New Legislation Enacted by Canadian Parliament:

A new Act entitled “An Act to amend the Canada National Parks Act to enlarge Nahanni National Park Reserve of Canada” was recently unanimously passed by both the House of Commons and the Senate and received Royal assent on June 17, 2009.

The new Act provides for the expansion of Nahanni National Park and, crucially from CZN’s point of view, at Section 7 amends Section 41 of the Canada National Parks Act to enable the Minister of the Environment to grant leases, licences of occupation of, and easements over, public lands situated in the expansion area for the purposes of a mining access road leading to the Prairie Creek Area, including the sites of storage and other facilities connected with that road. Heretofore, an access road to a mine through a National Park was not permitted under the Canada National Parks Act, and the Act was amended solely for Nahanni National Park Reserve and specifically for the purpose of providing access to the Prairie Creek Mine area.

Golden Minerals Announces the Sale of Platosa Property

Golden Minerals Company announced the sale of the Company’s remaining 49% joint venture interest in the Platosa property to Excellon Resources Inc. (“Excellon”), for US $2.0 million in cash and a 1% net smelter return royalty. Previous agreements between the Company and Excellon, including a 2% net smelter return royalty previously granted, were terminated in this transaction. Definitive agreements have been executed, titles to the claims have been transferred and the US $2.0 million cash payment has been made by Excellon.

The Platosa property is located approximately 45 kilometers north of Torre?n, Mexico, outside of Golden Minerals Zacatecas project and the Company’s strategic area of interest. The Company’s Zacatecas Project, which encompasses about 15,000 hectares and currently includes four main target areas, is about 250 kilometers southeast of the Platosa property.

Selwyn Resources Options Vinata Property, Mexico and Plans Drilling
Selwyn Resources Ltd. announce that it has reached agreement with Savant Explorations Ltd. to acquire an interest in its Vinata Property located in the state of Chihuahua in north central Mexico. The acquisition agreement grants Selwyn an option to acquire an initial 50% interest in the Vinata Property, and upon exercising of that option, a second option for Selwyn to increase its interest to 55% by making additional expenditures. Selwyn and Savant are planning a USD$450,000 drilling program to commence in late September to test several prime targets for high grade silver-zinc-lead mineralization. The acquisition of an interest in the Vinata Property by Selwyn is subject to receipt by the parties of required regulatory approvals and to completion of final documentation.

The acquisition provides Selwyn shareholders with exploration activity at a time when Selwyn’s large scale zinc-lead Selwyn Project is focused largely on environmental assessment and engineering activities related to the evaluation of development alternatives. Selwyn remains clearly focused on the development of the Selwyn Project but believes that shareholders would benefit from successful exploration activity on the Vinata Property.

The Vinata Property is located in north central Mexico in the prolific Central Mineral Belt that hosts numerous very large silver-zinc-lead mining districts at Bismark, Cinco de Mayo, Santa Eulalia, Naica, San Martin and Fresnillo. The Vinata Project is seen as providing Selwyn an exciting opportunity to participate in the exploration for a new major silver-zinc-lead deposit along trend with the Santa Eulalia and Naica mining districts. Collectively these two mining districts have produced more than 750 million ounces of silver and significant zinc and lead.

Chinese demand for steel to keep growing for a decade

Bloomberg reported that China voracious demand for steel will keep growing for at least a decade helping to sustain Australia's mining boom.

Chinese steel demand is still low on a per capita basis and will not peak until 2024 if GDP grows at about 7% annually or a few years earlier if its rate remains higher.

Mr Huw McKay Westpac economist, Australian Bureau of Agricultural & Resource Economics commodity analyst Mr Yu Sheng and Australian National University associate professor Mr Ligang Song said “The path that China takes from here will have profound implications for the global demand and supply balance.”

They said “Chinese GDP per capita grew at a compound rate of 7% between 1980 and 2008. Extrapolating current growth rates in urbanization plus investment and trade propensity, our framework produces the result that peak demand for steel will be reached when China GDP per capita level is USD 15,449. If China continues on its post-1980 trajectory of 7% compound growth, China would reach this point during 2024.”

The researchers said that China per capita income was USD 5449 in 2008, so it must almost triple to attain peak steel intensity. They said “Based on this projection, in per capita terms, China's demand for steel will be higher than the peak level reached in the West, but lower than the peaks seen in Japan, Korea and Taiwan.”

The findings are to be published in an upcoming book on China edited by Mr Ross Garnaut.

They are backed up by the Economist Intelligence Unit, whose Beijing chief Mr Stephen Joske told The Australian “China is likely to surprise on the upside in its output of key products such as steel, cement, electricity and cars over the next decade.”

He said that "At the EIU in Beijing we do very detailed a forecast of long term supply and demand by province and it paints a very strong picture overall. For China we have the quantity of steel produced rising by around 60% between now and 2020."

Once self sufficient in coal, China has turned to importing the resource, particularly the harder metallurgical or coking coal that is used in steelmaking and of which Australia is prime supplier. Figures released yesterday showed that China imported 94.2 million tonnes of coal in the January to July period.

Chinese steel price surge extends to week 5

Contrary to the expectation of many people, the price surge in Chinese steel market has extended to the fifth week.

The composite index of steel price released on August 24 is 155.1, up by 0.5% compared to last week.

From the perspective of the general economic trend of China, market demand for steel products will maintain stable development. However, the oversupply problem still exists, therefore it is believed that the surge can’t be very huge. And shocks are unavoidable either.

According to relevant monitoring report, after the construction steel price reached CNY 4100 per tonne to CNY 4200 per tonne and the steel futures price reached CNY 4200 per tonne, there have been no further rise ever since. Clearly the surge has not enough momentum.

Besides, although prices of most steel species are increased due to the effect of price rise by the three steel majors Baosteel, Angang steel and Wugang steel, prices have fallen back to the original level in the end of last week for the above mentioned steel species.

The price rebound for steel products have lasted for more than one month and the reaction by downstream industry has been far from good. On one hand, it proves that the downstream demand is not rigid; on the other hand, it means the downstream demand needs longer time to be released.

As to the trend of steel price in the second half of the year, market opinions are largely the same: steel demand will increase stably, but the recent surge will not be huge.

The judgment is quite reasonable, as it takes the general economic trend of China into consideration. Demand increased of steel products is mainly because of some large scale investment plan initiated by the Chinese government.

Chinese domestic iron ore production

Chinese domestic iron ore production rises to record in June
Bloomberg reported that iron ore production in China, the world largest consumer of the commodity, rose to a daily record last month helping steelmakers cut imports.

Mr Daniel Kang HSBC analysts said daily output reached 3.4 million tonnes last month. That’s equivalent to an annualized output of 384 million tons of concentrate with 63% iron content compared with last year 238 million tonnes.

HSBC said China is ramping up domestic production to help cut its reliance on imports from Vale SA, BHP Billiton Ltd and Rio Tinto Group which account for three quarters of global trade. The domestic iron ore industry is profitable if prices exceed CNY 1,000 per tonne.

The analysts wrote in the report that “We expect iron ore imports to slow in coming months. We believe that these pricing levels will continue to encourage domestic miners to continue production at high levels.”

According to Beijing Antaike Information Development Co iron ore prices at Tangshan, Hebei province have risen for seven of the past eight days. Prices are up by 13% to CNY 1,130 per tonne from the CNY 1,000 per tonne price reached on July 2nd a four month low. The price is for ore with 66% content.

HSBC said China Ministry of Land and Resources has set a target of 1,100 million tonnes of domestic ore production by 2015 up by 25% from 875 million tons last year.

Paladin Energy Ltd: Kayelekera Fatality

Paladin Energy Ltd regretfully advises that a fatality has occurred as a result of a motor vehicle incident at the Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Malawi on Wednesday, 7th October. A contracted mini-bus conveying 19 national workers overturned on a site access road and rolled down an embankment. One employee died and 19 people (including the driver) were injured. Those injured were immediately attended by the site doctor and transported to hospitals in Karonga and Mzuzu. Four were treated and allowed to leave and 15 people were admitted to hospital. Three are reported to be in serious but stable condition and others are in stable condition. Police and relevant Government officials have been informed and investigations are continuing. Assistance is being provided to the bereaved family.

International Enexco Limited Receives Drill Results on Its Mann Lake Uranium Project, Saskatchewan
Arnold Armstrong, President and CEO of International Enexco Ltd. reported that the Company has received from Cameco Corp. the remaining assay results from the 2009 winter drill program at Mann Lake. Incomplete assays from the winter program were published in an August 10, 2009 International Enexco news release. A total of 4,155 metres were drilled in six holes ranging in depth from 648m to 732m.

Strong alteration system indicators including high concentrations of boron (B) and low grade eU308 over long intersections were discovered in the sandstone formation (above the unconformity) during the 2009 winter drill program at Mann Lake. These indicators are often associated with unconformity (basement hosted) style uranium mineralization in the southeastern portion of the Athabasca Basin. Basement hosted uranium discoveries in the Athabasca Basin are often considered to be more desirable in terms of ease of mining and avoidance of possible water problems that sandstone can sometimes present. High grade, basement hosted eU308 averaging 7.12% over 0.25 m and 5.53% over 0.4 m was discovered within 12 m of the unconformity during Cameco’s 2006 Mann Lake drill program at depths of just over 500 m (see Enexco news release June 20, 2006). Combined assay results from all prior Mann Lake drill programs are particularly encouraging and further drill programs are anticipated.

The Mann Lake Project is located in northern Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin, the world’s richest and highest grade uranium district. The project is located approximately 20 km from Cameco’s McArthur River Mine (332 million lbs eU308), 65 km from the historic Key Lake Mine (166 million lbs eU308) and 15 km from Cameco’s Millennium deposit (46.8 million lbs eU308). Cameco Corp is project operator and the property is partnered as follows: International Enexco 30%, Cameco Corp. 52.5% and AREVA 17.5% with all partners financing exploration as per their percentage.

Pacific Bay Options Argentina Uranium Property to UrAmerica
David H. Brett, President and CEO, Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd. reports that the Company has optioned its 100% owned “Cerro Solo” claims in Chubut Province, Argentina (the “Property”), to UrAmerica Ltd., a private company focused on uranium discovery in Latin America. Under the option agreement, UrAmerica can earn a 60% interest in the Property by incurring USD$1,200,000 in exploration expenditures and paying Pacific Bay USD$140,000 over a 4 year period. Upon UrAmerica completing the option, the parties will then form a joint venture and contribute to Property expenditures pro-rata according to their respective interests.

Acquired by Pacific Bay in 2007, via staking, and formerly under option to Portal Resources Ltd., the Property lies within the “Cerro Solo Basin”, a portion of the San Jorge Basin, where several known economic, open-pit uranium deposits occur. The Cerro Solo deposit is situated 30 kilometres to the west of the Property, and hosts a 43-101 non-compliant historical resource calculated by the Argentine National Atomic Energy Commission to be 10 million pounds of U3O8, at a grade of 0.30%; and, 3.3 million pounds of molybdenum at a grade of 0.20% MoS2. As previously reported by the Company, Portal Resources obtained encouraging “Alpha Track” radioactivity results that were interpreted to indicate a potentially Uranium mineralized paleochannel at depth within the local highly prospective Los Adobes Formation.

“UrAmerica has significant resources and expertise on the ground in Argentina and is focused on uranium discovery,” said Pacific Bay CEO David H. Brett. “This partnership is a big step forward for Pacific Bay as we seek to leverage our uranium and other assets in Argentina.”

Vena Resources Provides Update on Uranium Discovery and Drilling and Announces Private Placement

Vena Resources Inc. announce that as the drill permitting process is in the final stages, Minergia Resources SAC, a company jointly owned by Vena and Cameco Corp., expects drilling to commence mid-November on the Macusani uranium project located in Peru’s southeastern Puno Department.

The total program encompasses 11,000 meters of drilling in 71 drill holes and the first phase of this year’s program will consist of 35 holes from 29 platforms totaling approximately 5,600 meters and will concentrate on developing inferred resources at the Tantamaco prospect as well as initial testing of the Isivilla prospect. Two other prospects – Calvario Real and Tuturumani – will be tested during the second phase of the drill program. The drilling will be performed by Canchi Perforaciones Peru S.A.C. utilizing two track mounted BBS-18E rigs that have been selected to minimize the environmental impact of the program.

The Tantamaco uranium prospect is located on the northern rim of the Macusani caldera. Uranium mineralization is principally autunite that occurs in fractures and joints within rhyolitic ignimbrites in multiple near surface horizons. The best intersection in the 2008 reconnaissance drilling was 0.2 %U (4.22 lb/t U) over 14.5 meters. The first phase of the drill program will explore an area of 900 meters by 300 meters with holes spaced at 100 meter intervals. The objective is to test the continuity and grade of the mineralization leading to the calculation of an initial open pit reserve.

The second phase of the drill program will continue to expand the testing of the Tantamaco prospect to the south. A plan showing the Tantamaco drill program is posted on the Vena Resources web page at www.venaresources.com.

In a recent development, field crews have discovered uranium mineralization in a porphyritic intrusive on the Santa Rosa property located approximately 80 kilometers southwest of Macusani. Uranium in the form of torbernite and metatorbernite occurs as fracture filling and disseminations in a monzonitic granite intruding Permian volcanics. Detailed scintillometer surveying and surface rock sampling is underway to determine the potential size and grade of the zone.

Uranerz Receives Air Quality Permit for ISR Mine Construction
Uranerz Energy Corporation announce that the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (“WDEQ”) – Air Quality Division has approved and issued the air quality permit for the Company’s Nichols Ranch ISR Uranium Project. The WDEQ – Air Quality Division has issued Permit No. CT-8644 in the form of a Permit to Construct the Nichols Ranch Uranium ISR Project which includes the Nichols Ranch Central Processing facility and the Hank Satellite plant. This is the first operational permit for the construction of the Nichols Ranch Uranium ISR Project to be issued to Uranerz by the State of Wyoming. Receipt of the air quality permit demonstrates progress in the environmental permitting process required for uranium production in Wyoming. The WDEQ Permit to Mine and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Source Material License must also be obtained prior to initiating construction activities on site.

In December 2007 the Company submitted the Source Material License and Permit to Mine applications to build and operate the Nichols Ranch Uranium ISR Project, located in Johnson and Campbell Counties in the Pumpkin Buttes Uranium Mining District of the Powder River Basin, approximately 60 miles northeast of Casper, Wyoming. The detailed review of these two applications by the respective agencies is ongoing at this time. The Nichols Ranch Uranium ISR Project includes uranium in-situ recovery (“ISR”) well-fields and a central processing facility (complete with ion-exchange concentration and elution circuits, and drying and packaging circuits for finished yellowcake product) at the Nichols Ranch property, and a satellite facility with uranium ISR well-fields and an ion-exchange plant at the Hank property. The production level from these two properties is planned to be in the range of 600,000 to 800,000 pounds per year (as U3O8), while the central processing facility is being licensed for a production level of two million pounds per year. The project is progressing through detailed engineering and design. Buckingham Exploration Inc. announce that it has optioned the Lady Ermalina Chemainus Claims on Vancouver Island. The option calls for an immediate payment of cash and shares and staged payments in future years. Specifically, Buckingham agreed to issue an aggregate of 600,000 shares of common stock of the company and to pay an aggregate of $5,000 in cash in consideration for the grant of the sole and exclusive right and option to acquire a one hundred percent undivided interest in the claims. In addition, Buckingham has to incur not less than $600,000 in expenditures on exploration and development of the property before January 6, 2012.

Mawson focuses on uranium exploration in Scandinavia
Mawson Resources Limited announces the company has commenced proceedings to withdraw from its mineral exploration licences in Spain, and at the same time expand its uranium exploration efforts throughout Scandinavia.

Century Mining Announces Capital Lease Financing Facilities for Lamaque Mine Project

Century Mining Corporation report that it has entered into term sheets with First National Capital Corporation and Mazuma Capital Corporation for two lease lines totaling $5.0 million and $4.0 million, respectively, subject to satisfaction of various conditions and final due diligence. Both facilities are repayable over a 42-month period, and are conventional capital leasing facilities.

The equipment to be leased will consist of various underground and surface mining vehicles including such items as drills, scoops, haulage trucks, and service and maintenance vehicles. B.C. Provincial Government halts mineral exploration in Flathead Valley

Max Resource Corp. has learned that the Government of British Columbia intends to halt all ongoing mineral exploration work and prohibit any future mine development in the Flathead Valley in Southeastern B.C.

In his Throne Speech of February 9, 2010, which outlines the B.C. Government’s legislative agenda for the upcoming session, BC Lieutenant-Governor Steven L. Point announced that the Province of B.C. intends to enter into a partnership with the State of Montana regarding the Flathead River Basin and, as a result, “Mining, oil and gas development and coalbed gas extraction will not be permitted in British Columbia’s Flathead Valley”. This action will effectively prevent any further exploration or development of the Company’s Crowsnest gold project, which is located in the Flathead Valley watershed.

“We are surprised and disappointed by the Government’s action,” said Stuart Rogers, President of MAX, “given our outstanding exploration results at Crowsnest in 2009. And we will seek adequate compensation.”

MAX will now resume its focus on gold in Nevada, where drill permitting on three gold exploration projects (Table Top, Diamond Peak and East Manhattan Wash) is already well underway.

New Strategic Acquisitions for Midland East of the Duparquet Gold Mining Camp
Midland Exploration Inc. announce the acquisition by staking of two new claim blocks with strong gold potential, located along the eastward extension of the Duparquet gold mining camp. These two new claim blocks, known as Bassignac and Highway, are wholly owned and respectively consist of 25 claims totalling 1,281 hectares and 7 claims covering about 211 hectares. These new strategic acquisitions are located only 25 kilometres north of Rouyn-Noranda, in the Abitibi region of Quebec.

The Highway block is the furthest to the west and is located about 12 kilometres from the Beattie and Donchester deposits, where resources are estimated at 2,095,389 gold ounces based on a cut-off grade of 1.0 g/t Au (Source: 43-101 report published in October 2009 by Peter Bevan). A major drilling program, by Osisko Mining Corporation in partnership with Clifton Star Resources, totalling 120,000 metres is currently underway on these deposits. Recently during this drilling program, a drill hole intersection returned 7.54 g/t Au over 25.2 metres (Source: Osisko Mining Corporation press release dated August 5th, 2010). During a recent field visit of the Highway property, Midland geologists confirmed the presence of a major east-west-trending fault zone subsidiary to the Destor-Porcupine Fault, which is located just 3.5 km further south. This structure marks the faulted contact between conglomerates of the Duparquet Group and volcanic rocks of the Deguisier Formation.

The Bassignac block is located just 6 kilometres further east, along the same structure but in a location where a few km-scale lens-shaped magnetic signatures, similar to the magnetic signature associated with gold-bearing syenite intrusions occurring in the Beattie-Donchester area in Duparquet, were identified.

A compilation of previous work conducted on the two blocks indicates the faulted contact, traced over more than 4 kilometres strike length, has never been tested by induced polarization geophysical surveys. Several gold showings and deposits are known along this structure to the west of Midland’s claim blocks, such as the Central Duparquet No. 1 zone, estimated at 574,196 tonnes grading 5.1 g/t Au. Further east, the Central Duparquet No. 2 showing yielded drill results reaching 2.7 g/t Au over 7.6 metres, and the Jacques showing yielded a drill intersection grading 4.96 g/t Au over 3.3 metres (Source: MRNF SIGEOM map sheet 32D11).

Midland strongly believes these two new properties have an excellent potential to host porphyry-type gold mineralization proximal to a major east-west-trending fault zone subsidiary to the Destor-Porcupine Fault.

Power Plan Conserving energy

Getting green will put more green in the wallets of 47,000 workers in four Western states over the next 20 years, according to a plan approved by the Northwest Power and Conservation Council.

The council said up to 3,500 direct jobs will be created in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana in the next two decades as energy management companies and utilities hire technicians to meet demand for energy efficiency services. The council predicted that another 43,500 jobs will be created indirectly over that period as businesses take advantage of energy cost savings to boost their payrolls.

Demand for power in those four Western states is expected to increase by 7,000 megawatts by 2030, about the amount of electricity consumed by more than five cities the size of Seattle over the course of a year. Up to 85 percent of that demand can be met through conservation efforts, according to the council’s plan. Revised every five years, the plan serves as a guide for utilities to meet future energy needs at the lowest possible cost.

Energy-efficiency measures are the cheapest option by far, representing about half the cost of building new coal or natural-gas-fired power plants instead. Upgrades to homes and appliances have the most potential for savings at 2,600 megawatts, or 42 percent of the estimated total savings of 6,100 megawatts.

“A lot of this conservation doesn’t come from your utility over the next 20 years, it comes from decisions consumers make,” said John Harrison, a spokesman for the power council.

Harrison said demand for energy efficiency services should increase as consumers replace outdated furnaces and remodel their homes with energy-efficient windows and insulation, possibly with added incentives from their utilities.

Additional savings will come from upgrades to lighting and control systems in commercial buildings, more efficient consumer electronics, equipment and system optimization in industrial operations, upgrades to utility distribution systems and improved agricultural systems.

Not all of the potential energy-saving measures are cost-effective, however. In all, the council estimates about 5,800 megawatts of savings can be met, out of the 6,100 megawatts of energy efficiency measures identified.

Local impact

Northwest Natural Gas and Clark Public Utilities have already started stepping up energy efficiency programs in anticipation of the council’s new plan. The conservation budget is likely to increase at Clark utilities so it can meet new goals set by the power council.

“State Initiative 937 mandates that we achieve all the practical conservation we can achieve as identified by the (power) council,” said Mick Shutt, spokesman for Clark utilities. “We’ll evaluate the final plan, and at some time it will go to our commission to get approval of what else we might do.”

The new programs, in combination with stricter building codes related to saving energy, increased business somewhat last year for Miller’s One Hour Heating and Air-Conditioning in Vancouver.

“The state of Washington will start requiring duct sealing as part of the building code,” said Sharon Brouillette, a spokeswoman for Miller’s. “It’s extra hours for the workers … and it does cost the customer upfront, but in the long run it saves them money because they’re not heating under their house.”

Clark College is also preparing to help meet work force needs in the growing energy efficiency industry with a host-of new programs in the sector, including training in weatherization, smart-grid technology and control systems. The power council’s plan reinforces the school’s mission to prepare students for jobs of the future.

“There will be jobs for our graduates,” said Rassoul Dastmozd, vice president of academic affairs at Clark College. But, he cautioned, “we have to be very careful (about predictions). When the tire hits the road, we don’t know how many jobs will actually be created.”

The United States announced Monday a campaign to raise 100 million dollars over five years to help developing countries gain better access to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The State Department said US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will announce the campaign in her speech before delegates at the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference at the United Nations.

"The United States has pledged 50 million dollars to this effort and will work with others to meet the 100 million dollar target by the opening of the next NPT Review Conference," it said in a statement.

The funds are earmarked for projects sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to help meet energy demand and be used for humanitarian purposes, such as boosting cancer treatment and fighting infectious diseases.

It will also be aimed at boosting "food and water security, and at the development of infrastructure for the safe, secure use of civil nuclear power," it said.

"These efforts will be aimed to assist developing countries," it said.

The NPT is built on a bargain. Nuclear weapons states pledged to move towards disarmament. Other states foreswore the bomb in return for unfettered access to peaceful nuclear energy, such as generating electricity.

Clinton, the statement said, will also announce that the United States will seek US Senate advice and consent to ratification of several protocols to the Africa Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty (Treaty of Pelindaba) and the South Pacific Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty (Treaty of Rarotonga).

"These treaties complement the NPT and enhance the international non-proliferation regime by prohibiting the development or testing of nuclear weapons within their respective geographic zones," it added.

"The United States is not eligible to be a party to either of these treaties, but it is eligible to join treaty protocols open for signature by the nuclear weapons states," it said.

"These protocols include a pledge not to test nuclear weapons within the zones and legally-binding assurances not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against treaty parties," according to the statement.

Malaysia announced Tuesday it aims to build its first nuclear power plant by 2021, saying it is the only solution to the country's growing energy needs.
"The cabinet has approved in principle. Yes, we are going nuclear. For our ministry, the countdown has begun," said Peter Chin, minister for energy, green technology and water.

"We need a lead time of 10 years. (In) 2021 we could have our first plant hopefully," he told reporters.

Chin said the nuclear option was the solution to Malaysia's energy needs, and indicated the government was not keen to debate with critics, saying the priority was to reassure those living in the vicinity of the eventual site.

"No point engaging (with all stakeholders). Only when the site is identified we will engage those affected. There must be a sincere debate on energy security," he said.

State energy firm Tenaga has said it could construct the country's first 1,000 megawatt nuclear power plant at a cost of 3.1 billion dollars.

The government asked it to look at the option amid surging global oil prices and in view of the country's limited supply of oil and natural gas.

Currently, half of Malaysia's power plants run on gas, and the rest on coal and hydropower. Chin described Malaysia's existing energy mix as "unhealthy".

"Energy demand keeps increasing. Going into the future is to go nuclear. That is the only viable option," he said.

Chin said Malaysia was looking at South Korea, France, Japan and China as possible technology providers for the plant.

He said the government was identifying possible sites, and the plant would be in a region where power demand was high. "We have a few sites in mind," he said, but declined to elaborate.

The minister said electricity usage in Malaysia was currently 14,000 megawatts while total capacity is 23,000 MW.

"By 2017, we would have hit critical levels," Chin said. "It is a very costly exercise. We have no choice."

Malaysia's plan to build its first nuclear power plant ran into opposition Wednesday from politicians and environmentalists who queried how necessary and safe it would be.
The government on Tuesday said the country's growing energy needs would be met by a nuclear power station that would be up and running in 2021.

But Lim Guan Eng, secretary general of the opposition Democratic Action Party said Malaysia already had enough capacity.

"Clearly Malaysia has more energy than it needs. Without any economic grounds or energy security justification, why then does Malaysia need a nuclear power plant?" he asked.

"Malaysians wonder what assurances can be given in relation to safety and environment following the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant accident in Ukraine that claimed 56 lives and resulted in 4,000 cancer deaths," he added.

Loh Chi Leong, executive director of the Malaysian Nature Society told AFP: "There are obvious concerns over nuclear power."

Malaysia must develop energy efficiency technology and invest in solar, hydro and wind power, he said.

Peter Chin, minister for energy, green technology and water, said Tuesday the nuclear option was the solution to Malaysia's energy needs, and indicated the government was not keen to debate with critics but would work to reassure those living near the eventual site.

Loh said: "We would appreciate much more debate on this issue. We want an integrated formal power plan. We should concentrate on renewable energy."

Mohideen Abdul Kader, advisor with the environmental group Friends of the Earth Malaysia, expressed anger at the announcement.

"We are angry that the government does not want to engage with stakeholders. It is shocking news. Under ex-prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, the government said it was not going nuclear. There is a U-turn in our policy," he said.

Mohideen said his group also opposed the plan because Malaysia could obtain technology to make nuclear weapons.

Malaysia last month said it would strictly enforce a new law to curb trafficking of nuclear weapon components after being linked to the illegal supply of sensitive technology to Iran and Libya.

"There will be political repercussions if the government persists on building a nuclear power plant," Mohideen warned, adding that the country should concentrate on energy conservation.

State energy firm Tenaga has said it could construct the country's first 1,000 megawatt nuclear power plant at a cost of 3.1 billion dollars.

The government had asked it to look at the option as oil prices surged and in view of the country's limited supply of oil and natural gas.

In 1982, PT Kaltim Prima Coal (“KPC”) located at Sengata, on the East coast of Kalimantan, entered into a Coal Contract of Work (“CCOW”) to explore, produce and market coal from its agreement area in East Kalimantan.

KPC is one of the largest mines of its type in the world. The concession area reaches 90,960 hectares. KPC produces three types of coal: Prima, Pinang and Melawan. Prima and Pinang are high quality bituminous coals with low ash and sulphur content. The coals have excellent combustion performance. Melawan is sub-bituminous coal exhibiting low ash and sulphur characteristics.

At Sengata, KPC has developed a fully integrated and self-supporting mine with a series of open cut pits and coal preparation facilities. The Sengata mine is supported by a 10 MW coal fired power station which is supplemented by five generator sets of 9.4 MW of diesel capacity. The coal at the Sengata mine is delivered to the coal crushing plant where it is crushed and, if necessary, screened and washed at the coal washing plant and placed onto the conveyor belt for transportation to the shipping terminal. The coal crusher consists of seven double-roll single-pass roll crushers 1,200 tph capacity average. Afterwards, the coal is transported from stockpiles adjacent to the coal preparation area to the shipping terminal on the Kalimantan coast by a 13 km overland belt conveyor, which has a nominal handling capacity of 4,200 tph. The coal journey from the coal preparation to the shipping terminal takes less than 30 minutes.

At the coal shipping terminal in Sengata, Tanjung Bara Coal Terminal (“TBCT”), coal is either stacked or directly routed through the stockyard into the shiploaders. The TBCT’s stockpile has a total capacity of 1,200,000 tonnes and is capable of handling vessels up to 220,000 DWT at a rate of 4,700 tph.

At Bengalon, the run-of-mine produced is hauled by the contractors’ trucks over a distance of approximately 25 km to a barge loading facility, here shuttle barges transport the coal to a transloader located offshore.

KPC Ports are the port facilities of KPC, which incorporate the water rights to the Port of Tanjung Bara and Lubuk Tutung, the coal stockpiles, the deep water ocean berths and ship loaders. KPC Ports consists of TBCT, FTS, FCS, TBT, and LTT.

The Tanjung Bara Coal Terminal (TBCT), the main port, is the wharf with the twin quadrant ship loaders that has been in operations since 1991.
The Floating Transfer Station (FTS) is the offshore floating transhipper that discharges the coal from the barges and loads it on to the vessel using its shiploading conveyors.
The Floating Crane Station (FCS) is the offshore floating crane that discharges the coal from the barges and loads it on to the vessel using its cranes and grabs
The Tanjung Bara Self-Loading Transhipment (TBT) and Lubuk Tutung Self-Loading Transhipment (LTT) are the anchorage points where the vessels can do self-loading transhipment activities using the vessel’s gear in Tanjung Bara and Lubuk Tutung areas respectively, which will be supported with coal stockpiles, barge loaders, tugs, and barges.

All operations within the terminals and transhipment points come under the jurisdiction of the Indonesian Government Department of Sea Communications and all operations are subject to the laws and harbour regulations of Indonesia. KPC Ports are not public ports.

Iron ore production in China

Bloomberg reported that iron ore production in China, the world largest consumer of the commodity, rose to a daily record last month helping steelmakers cut imports.

Mr Daniel Kang HSBC analysts said daily output reached 3.4 million tonnes last month. That’s equivalent to an annualized output of 384 million tons of concentrate with 63% iron content compared with last year 238 million tonnes.

HSBC said China is ramping up domestic production to help cut its reliance on imports from Vale SA, BHP Billiton Ltd and Rio Tinto Group which account for three quarters of global trade. The domestic iron ore industry is profitable if prices exceed CNY 1,000 per tonne.

The analysts wrote in the report that “We expect iron ore imports to slow in coming months. We believe that these pricing levels will continue to encourage domestic miners to continue production at high levels.”

According to Beijing Antaike Information Development Co iron ore prices at Tangshan, Hebei province have risen for seven of the past eight days. Prices are up by 13% to CNY 1,130 per tonne from the CNY 1,000 per tonne price reached on July 2nd a four month low. The price is for ore with 66% content.

HSBC said China Ministry of Land and Resources has set a target of 1,100 million tonnes of domestic ore production by 2015 up by 25% from 875 million tons last year.
